Fine Tuning Economic Development In Northeast, Ohio

Submitted by ANGELnWard14 on Sat, 06/11/2011 - 00:35.

If you want to consider strategies for "ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT INVESTMENTS" in NEO; I believe that first you must protect the public at large from abusive practices that are unjust. You must create a trustworthy environment that is not about pay to play politics. NEO has countless people who have been denegrated and denied equal access to resources in order to develop ideas, businesses, and to participate democratically. It's a hush-hush truth that cannot be denied anymore.

Realneo - after our 2 week "time out" - is emphasizing CIVIL discourse

Submitted by Jeff Buster on Sun, 06/05/2011 - 20:23.

Today, 10.18.11, a bit of earnest and important Realneo went off into the ditch.   Would it be possible that certain recent comment dialogue be self-moderated and self-removed by the authors?  just askin....

Recently Realneo lost all civility and substantially abandoned any focus on facilitating intelligent community dialogue. For example, instead of advocating citizen journalism and respectful discourse, a great deal of time and effort was spent on ad hominem attacks between users of the site.

Daffodil Days

Submitted by lmcshane on Sun, 04/24/2011 - 09:48.

Thank you for today's header--if you haven't already done so, get out on this fleeting weekend to enjoy the cherry blossoms and the daffodil days in University Circle and at parks throughout NEO.

I was fortunate to be up early, both yesterday and today, to hear the robins and the sweet plaintive call of the white-throated sparrow.

SOCIETY UNRAVELING - Retro-fitting anti-sleep bench bars to our architecture

Submitted by Jeff Buster on Sat, 04/16/2011 - 09:32.

You are looking at a little signal about our society - short metal bars which are an indication of a big problem.

20, 30, 50 years ago these little bars weren't necessary in the US.

Today we face the unpleasant task of keeping people from sleeping, and living, in public places.  Especially warm places (image above) next to building HVAC exhaust grates.

Right outside Father's Dream

Submitted by Lee Batdorff on Fri, 03/25/2011 - 16:35.

Today I went to Father's Dream Appliances, which repairs and sells used appliances from their store at 9520 Woodland Ave. on the East side of Cleveland. I purchased a washer and dryer for $484.88, tax and delivery and 90 day warranty included. Just as the paperwork was completed, the owner of the business came in and told me that someone had hit my car.

I went out and saw a crowd of people around a screaming man on the ground next to two totaled cars. Neither was mine. My car was scraped a bit over the left rear wheel.

Broken fire hydrant at Pearl and Denison 500 yards from school
A walk around the neighborhood today revealed an infrastructure in shambles.

President Obama--we need a Civilian Conservation Corp.  We need to fix America.  We are squandering precious natural resources and our future.  This fire hydrant is less than 500 yards away from a school on Denison Ave. and less than a block away from Cleveland Fire Station #20 at Archwood and SR 42/Pearl Rd..

Dear Sierra Club President: Please Add Cleveland State University to your "Campuses Beyond Coal" Campaign and Begin Organizing!

Submitted by Norm Roulet on Thu, 02/24/2011 - 10:47.

Dear Sierra Club President and Nachy Kanfer - Campuses Beyond Coal:

Please Add Cleveland State University to your "Campuses Beyond Coal" Campaign and begin organizing against their primary energy provider, the astoundingly deadly, coal-polluting, private-investor-owned Cleveland Thermal coal furnace in the Cleveland Flats!

Cleveland State University (CSU) is the largest customer of Cleveland Thermal, and so must take a lead in moving this community beyond coal.

I don't imagine President Obama realized this sad situation, prior to his recent visit to Cleveland to meet with small business leaders and government representative at CSU about "jump-starting" our local economy, killed by pollution. I'm sure if he knew he was supporting environmental injustice here, in that way, he would have chosen a more socially-just venue to promote. Cleveland State University is not included in your "Campuses Beyond Coal" campaign, and should be added and activated immediately - Cleveland Thermal is one of the largest polluters in America - we must bring this to light and move them beyond coal to protect Clevelanders.

EPA Establishes Clean Air Act Standards for Boilers and Incinerators - What is the Impact in Northeast Ohio? Who Knows?!?!

Submitted by Norm Roulet on Wed, 02/23/2011 - 13:28.

Cleveland Thermal Pollution, Cuyahoga River, Cleveland, Ohio

There has been considerable conflict in industry and government - and Federal courts - over the emissions from large boilers and incinerators in America, and so Northeast Ohio, leading to new Clean Air Act standards for boilers and certain incinerators announced by the EPA today. As all America now acts to implement these new standards, it will be interesting to see what branches of government in Northeast Ohio monitor or even are aware of all the boilers and incinerators in this region - their current emissions and control technologies - which are out of compliance with the new standards - what they need to do to comply - what costs are involved to comply with the new act - what reductions in pollution will result, where - who will see reductions in their ambient and point source pollution - what benefits to public health will result - and how that will improve the value of property in this area. The public should be provided with this information immediately so we may make long term plans about where we live and what property we choose to own.

Battles over such rules are at the root of all evil in industry and America today - the heart of the tea party efforts to corrupt government by the Koch Brothers and their billionaire murderers and fans and followers in industries like coal and oil - The Fossil Boys - and the harm they have caused activists for clean energy, clean social networks like realNEO, the American people, and global climate. Thank you Federal EPA for your good fight for the health of Americans.

And you thought the tea party was actually about ending gays, abortion and unions! It was always all about the right to pollute and kill Americans! Time to end the party and fix America, everyone!

EPA Establishes Clean Air Act Standards for Boilers and Incinerators

Sensible standards provide significant public health benefits while cutting costs from initial proposal by nearly 50 percentWASHINGTON – In response to federal court orders requiring the issuance of final standards, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is issuing final Clean Air Act standards for boilers and certain incinerators that achieve significant public health protections through reductions in toxic air emissions, including mercury and soot, but cut the cost of implementation by about 50 percent from an earlier proposal issued last year.

Mercury, soot, lead and other harmful pollutants released by boilers and incinerators can lead to developmental disabilities in children, as well as cancer, heart disease, aggravated asthma and premature death in Americans. These standards will avoid between 2,600-6,600 premature deaths, prevent 4,100 heart attacks and avert 42,000 asthma attacks per year in 2014.

Ohio Daily Impact in the Global Spotlight - “The clock is ticking. This lake is dying.” - "OHIO IS GOING OUT OF BUSINESS"

Submitted by Norm Roulet on Tue, 02/08/2011 - 18:13.

Char Richtmyer, a Grand Lake St. Marys resident for 16 years, pulls a dead fish off the beach to toss it back in the water.
For the second year in a row, the lake has been plagued by a new and potentially toxic form of algae that is killing fish,
creating foul odors and driving away tourists at the height of the summer season. Staff photo by Jim Witmer

Ohio was in the news for incompetent environmental planning, last week, in The Daily Impact - Chronicling the Crash of the Industrial Age - "Ohio Lake “Dying”: Governor Applies Lipstick" - what does this say about our future? Thank God for outside media coverage of Ohio... the truth is sometimes told...

The government of the great state of Ohio demonstrated last week, with laser-like precision, exactly why we do not have a chance of avoiding the multiple catastrophes bearing down on our supplies of food, energy and water. In unveiling what was universally described as a “plan” to deal with one of the state’s biggest pollution problems, the governor and his fellow politicians also demonstrated the new first principle of government: it is far, far better to appear to be doing something than to actually do something.

Murdered in 1973 at the young age of 3 Years old... Happy Birthday!

Submitted by ANGELnWard14 on Tue, 02/08/2011 - 01:31.
Happy Birthday, Paulie....Forever in our Hearts...

So precious are the pure of heart... Paulie was a beautiful red haired, blue eyed  boy... Mom once told me about how he tried to change his brother's diaper and flushed the diaper down the toilet after soiling the entire house with the contents and coming to get her saying; "Mommy, 'brother' sh#t....I changed diaper!" She had to call in the plumber!

Yet, his life was taken away harshly and no one deserves to live with that kind of horror story. Our family has endured more than our share, that is for sure...

Sometimes Realneo is a joy - a way to express yourself and spread a little light.   Othertimes, the dreary material calls out for something new on top of it (no reference to what is below this) and we all have to search in the bottom of our bags for content to freshen up the situation.

CLEVELAND CITY OFFICIALS SAY BLOCKED SIDEWALK IS ADAQUATE FOR SAFE PASSAGE

This photo was taken on Thursday evening in front of Fahrenheit's at 2417 Professor Avenue (Tremont).

Immediately after I snapped a couple of shots, I went directly across the street to a TWDC economic Development Committee meeting wherein B & H Assistant Director Ron O'Leary was in attendance.

I brought this matter to the attention of those present and was told by Sammy Catania that City of Cleveland Superintendant of Public sidewalks John Petkac had been out and deemed the hazardous path safe for all - including citizens confined to wheelchairs.
