To blog or not to blog?

That is the question? With so many voices shouting in cyberspace, what's the point?

Brooklyn Centre down

Submitted by lmcshane on Fri, 10/03/2008 - 02:49.

Alas, we had a website and now it is gone. More hocus-pocus and bogus politics in Brooklyn Centre.

Lights out

Submitted by lmcshane on Wed, 10/01/2008 - 09:04.

During the memorable August black out of 2005, my neighborhood suddenly came alive with a festive spirit of cooperation and joy. We noticed the stars, sat on our front porches, and shared food, while the kids played in the streets. Tim knows.

Self-reliance

It used to be the American mantra. If you needed something, you made it. You didn't wait for it to be built in China. America, we are standing in a hole. Begging Washington for more money is not going to get us out of the hole.

The Threshold

Submitted by lmcshane on Mon, 09/29/2008 - 09:54.
We Americans are at the threshold. There is no turning back after November 4th. Please read Barack Obama's address to the American Library Association given in 2005.

Deflect, deflect, deflect

Submitted by lmcshane on Sun, 09/21/2008 - 09:36.

When the op-ed from today's PD becomes available to link, I will post it here. Meanwhile, let's all play the finger-pointing deflect blame game. It worked when you were a kid and it still works today!

Books, ideas, information, and when to buy a book

Submitted by lmcshane on Fri, 09/12/2008 - 08:20.

I gave up. I am not going to finish the Power Broker by Robert Caro. It's a fat book with small type. The cover and spine are worn and about to give out. I am going to go out and buy it, so that I will stop monopolizing the worn library copy.

Cuyahoga County representation?

Submitted by lmcshane on Mon, 09/08/2008 - 06:51.

Does Cuyahoga County represent Cleveland? Is Cleveland part of Cuyahoga County? What is the center community of Cuyahoga County? Bay Village?

Greater Access for All

Submitted by lmcshane on Sun, 09/07/2008 - 07:49.

One flag, one country. We're all different, but asked to come together under one flag. I hope to see one card and access for all.

Information

Submitted by lmcshane on Fri, 09/05/2008 - 11:55.

In my paid capacity and my capacity as a citizen in a community, I try to provide the information people need to live their daily lives and to help them to access the information that may help them to answer questions I will never understand. I am not infallible.

Heroes

"Let's face it; all I did was talk to this kid." The words of Willoughby South High School assistant principal and 19-year educator Jeff Lyons.  In the rush to blame someone--we look to our administrators and the parents of this world will be quick to say they don't know how a young man got a hold of a gun.

Bullys and the Invisible Man

Submitted by lmcshane on Sat, 08/30/2008 - 08:36.

Kudos to McCain on his choice of a running mate. It shows that he does have some ability to see what others see right through or refuse to see at all. That there are a lot of people who are tired of being invisible, tired of being bullied and harassed and tired of the status quo.

London Bridge is falling down

Submitted by lmcshane on Sat, 08/23/2008 - 09:56.

Does Cleveland and northeast Ohio have a policy of deferred maintenance?  It would seem that the strategy is to let everything fall apart until we qualify for state and federal funding.

Tradition!

Submitted by lmcshane on Fri, 08/22/2008 - 10:20.

My father, bless his soul, played and replayed the soundtracks to Fiddler on the Roof and Man of La Macha, over and over, until the lyrics became a mantra.  Tradition!  Try to establish just one simple family tradition and you will have children with the gift of memory.

Karaoke

Submitted by lmcshane on Tue, 08/12/2008 - 20:16.

My colleague has generously donated the use of her technology to our kids in the neigborhood*--a karaoke machine.  Today, we tried to belt out some High School musical tunes, Hannah Montana and then Motown, but it was uniformly painful.
