Finding our QUILT

The subconscious mind moves in mysterious ways. When I got home from meeting James Ransome--who, by the way, is one of the nicest human beings you will ever meet--I noticed that the two books I chose for my nephews were Under the Quilt of Night and Quilt Alphabet.

I know that I am scared for my nephews and the world they will inherit from us. Quilts symbolize safety and the comfort of home. I want that for my nephews and I wish they could have met James Ransome this past week. James Ransome treated the audience to the work of his children and it heartens me to see that greatness will carry on. I know that my nephew Jonah especially would be be charmed by the illustrations of Malcolm Ransome (The Leprauchaun Trap!).

James Ransome also generously inscribed books for the attendees and I was struck by the movement of his pen as he inscribed The Creation.

It was almost as if his pen moved by an outside force and He created a small world in an instant. The books illustrated by James Ransome do that. For a moment, you are aware of the past, but you are also aware of the future, and you are not scared by it.
