Real NEO Book of the Day: "Just a Couple of Days", by Tony Vigorito

Graffiti inspiration for "Just a Couple of Days", by Tony Vigorito

Real NEO's favorite librarian, Laura McShane, recently posted on REALNEO "we can agree that aerosol art can be a thing of beauty", which made me think of the graffiti above, which inspired the first novel by Tony Vigorito, Just A Couple Of Days

From Wikipedia, "The title Just a Couple of Days comes from a piece of graffiti which appeared on both sides of an overpass just outside of Athens, Ohio on U.S. Route 33 and remained there for over two years. The open-ended tone of the declaration is related to the plot of the book, and the way the words can mean different things to each person who sees them."

"Microsoft's true anticompetitive clout was in the rebates it offered to OEMs" - Cuomo Explores Same Problem With Intel

Submitted by Norm Roulet on Wed, 11/04/2009 - 23:18.

We have had discussions on REALNEO about the antitrust of Microsoft, and the harm that has caused the world, but few people remember back to 1999, when the antitrust case United States vs. Microsoft determined Microsoft's dominance of the Intel-based personal computer operating systems market constituted a monopoly, and that Microsoft had taken actions to crush threats to that monopoly, including Apple, Java, Netscape, Lotus Notes, Real Networks, Linux, and others. The court's conclusion was Microsoft must be broken into two separate units, one to produce the operating system, and one to produce other software components... a decision weakened on appeal (see below).

A decade later, we have the opportunity to explore related antitrust in the computer industry further, and put Microsoft antitrust in new perspective, as the November 4, 2009, New York Times reports "Cuomo Files Intel Antitrust Suit" - "Following the lead of foreign regulators, New York's attorney general, Andrew M. Cuomo, filed a federal antitrust lawsuit Wednesday against Intel, the world's largest chip maker."

The Origins of REALNEO

Submitted by Norm Roulet on Mon, 11/02/2009 - 17:40.

October 7, 2009, we began our sixth year of ongoing, expansive, free, open source content management and global knowledge sharing, community building, social networking and collaboration on REALNEO. See posting Number 1, REALNEO Development Plan, from October 7, 2004, here, for links to many source documents from the planning and development of REALNEO, since 2004.

Congratulations to all REALNEO members, from day one to today! We've come a long way, since 2004, and our outcomes run far deeper than is seen on the surface of REALNEO. Six years is an eternity, in the world of social computing - we're about 8 months younger than Facebook, and a paradigm beyond - we are Real Co-op!

Cyberterrorism, Cyberstalking, Cyberharassment, Cyberbullying and Blackheart Cleveland

I believe the actions of "Blackheart Cleveland" as an association and some "members" individually consititute some variation of Cyberterrorism, Cyberstalking, Cyberharassment, and/or Cyberbullying. It appears Blackheart Cleveland exists to disrupt the business of REAL COOP and attack REALNEO members personally, to cause personal and financial harm to members. I believe this is illegal.

Will Allen's "A Good Food Manifesto for America"

Submitted by Norm Roulet on Fri, 07/10/2009 - 05:10.

Thanks to Laura McShane for posting this morning a comment linking to Will Allen's "Good Food Manifesto" on his Growing Power blog. I, and millions of other people, became aware of Will last Sunday, when he was featured in the New York Times Sunday Magazine article "Street Fighter", but folks who follow local foods best practices surely knew of Will long before.

Welcome to Real NEO; Open Source Capital of the Brightest Greenest State of Earth

Smartest Greenest Breuer

Over the past 20 years, I've spent most of my "professional" time as an entrepreneur, with world-class expertise conducting multi-dimensional, multi-client relational comparative data and best practice analyses of any aspects of the world's largest and best global enterprises, environments and systems, and developing and consulting on innovations and total quality improvement. This work has generated a wealth of knowledge on large general systems, with a unique expertise in information systems and telecommunications. REALNEO is a product of this highest level expertise, drawn from the best practices of the best organizations on Earth. What REALNEO has developed for Cuyahoga County - what has been generated out of the REALNEO-generated Real Cooperative - takes general systems innovation to a whole new level of making us the brightest greenest place on Earth. So, we really do have a purpose to Cuyahoga County owning the Breuer, and the vision is beautifully expressed in this great rendering above, to be REAL COOP citizen headquarters of the open source capital of this brightest greenest state of Earth.

Citizen Dashboard Killer Ap Proposal: Reinvent Journalism in Real NEO

Lou Pumphrey in uniform carrying Flag of Peace in 2009 St. Patrick's Day Parade

I was surprised to see a letter to the editor printed and on-line in the Sunday, March 22, 2009, Cleveland Plain Dealer - "A flag of peace is found out of order at the St. Patrick's Day parade", by Lou Pumphrey. It starts: "Being half-Irish (on me mudder's side), off work on St. Patrick's Day and knowing the day would be sunny and warm, I vaguely considered donning my 41-year-old U.S. Army dress uniform and joining the St. Paddy's Day parade downtown, carrying my flag." But there was no accompanying picture of Lou or the Flag of Peace.

In the print edition, there was a file photo of a parade, but it was hardly relevant.

DrupalCon DC 2009, Day 1

Submitted by Jeff Schuler on Thu, 03/05/2009 - 00:12.

The Drupal brand of geek is to me a tasteful breed -- a nice mashup of programmers, designers, and administrators -- and those for whom these interests/skills overlap.

I've never been able to relate extremely well with the hardcore Linux kernel hackers. Folks with that incredible sort of domain-specific brilliance definitely abound in the Drupal community, but, (I may piss off said hackers to say,) the Drupal folks tend to have their heads more in this world.

Why is the Public Expected to Support the Medical Mall, a Model the Rest of Nation Seems to Be Running Away From?

Submitted by Kevin Cronin on Mon, 07/23/2007 - 20:47.

There are many points regarding the proposed medical mart that still don't make sense for me, so I want to post this quick note...

1) At some level, the proposal is an effort to shift some marketing infrastructure, and perhaps some inventory control, expenses of some private companies to the public sector. So what are the current costs for those activities by the affected private sector and why don't we start with that as an amount that the private sector should be required to start with in estimating ways of allocating burdens? Otherwise, this isn't a partnership, it's a bail-out.

07.05.27 Header of the Day: Edwin at the Inner Circle

Edwin at Inner Circle Restaurant

Located in the heart of the historic Hough Bakeries Complex is the Inner Circle, a weekend club and reception facility operated for the past 7 years by the Hot Sauce Williams family. Starting shortly, operation of the Inner Circle will expand to extended hours every day, featuring a cybercafe, meeting space, computer terminals, free wifi, independent film, the Linux Cafe, art, culture, and great food, coffee, and even wine tastings, via a broader partnership of friends. This pan is from the deck and patio area, and features Guyanese chef and reggae performer and DJ Edwin, who will help operate the Inner Circle, shown with Hot Sauce Williams founder LeMaud Williams, as well.
