ADULTS WITH CARBON POWERED TECHNOLOGY ATTACK AUTUMN

Submitted by Jeff Buster on Sun, 11/11/2007 - 11:17.

If you looked down from Mars and saw this activity all across North America - what would you think was going on?

Euclid Corridor Taking Shape, of Concrete

Submitted by Norm Roulet on Wed, 11/07/2007 - 23:44.

Driving back and forth between Ohio City and East Cleveland, I often take Euclid... partly to watch the progress of the "Silver Line" and Clinic Complex development. I increasingly find the "Silver Line" and Mid-Town aspects of all this disappointing, but I am fascinated by what I see coming together with the Cleveland Clinic.

HARD TIME IN THE RACK

Tower City and the Downtown Alliance Corporations around Public Square are moving the Cleveland  bedroom up Superior.   Downtown Cleveland is saying "NO" loud and clear.

Municipal Geothermal for Independent Green Republic of East Cleveland

Submitted by Norm Roulet on Thu, 11/01/2007 - 09:45.

While looking on Green City Blue Lake for a posting on the Breuer, I came across an interesting article by Marc Lefkowitz called "Warm up to district geothermal in Cleveland", which writes "Representatives from Case, UCI, Cleveland Clinic, city of Cleveland, Flats East Bank and Neighborhood Progress, Inc.— which is considering geothermal district power at its St. Luke’s development—met yesterday (October 22, 2007) at the Cleveland Foundation" to discuss "The economics of district-wide geothermal". It seems these groups are exploring large scale geothermal projects to help meet large energy needs, like for University Hospitals.

VISCERAL BUSINESSES - THE GUTS OF OUR ECONOMY

Submitted by Jeff Buster on Mon, 10/22/2007 - 21:20.

So when I walked by Joe, at the door taking a breather, asked..."you from Boston?"

Well, I had visited Boston (and I had spaced that the Indians were up against them just then) - so I thought the guy was able to see into the future.

Stable on my feet, I walked into the All State Barber College, and l felt that HERE was the healthy, real economic future.

CLEVELAND MIRAGE

Submitted by Jeff Buster on Wed, 10/17/2007 - 23:13.

I walked out on the Lorain Street Bridge with one photo in mind (red socks hanging out to dry - I’ll get that photo blogged tomorrow) - and then up the bridge slope comes a fellow with no legs powering his wheel chair with his arms.

The afternoon was warm and the sun intensely bright.  I began to get a head ache behind my right eye.  Cleveland’s central city rose starkly over a Vermont like grove of golding trees.

BEGGARS IN CLEVELAND?

Submitted by Jeff Buster on Wed, 10/17/2007 - 12:03.

There's a new sidewalk sign in Public Square (and elsewhere downtown).

Another sign that our society is dismantling itself into them and us.

FULL SHOPPING CART IN NORTH EAST OHIO

Saturday AM at the bus stop - probably after a night's work in the neighborhood near CCC.

CAMERAS SHOOT MAYOR JACKSON AND DR. SANDERS

Submitted by Jeff Buster on Fri, 10/12/2007 - 16:52.

City of Cleveland Mayor Jackson and Cleveland Metropolitan School District Superintendent Eugene Sanders held a “news conference” in the Mayor’s Chambers this afternoon.  The security magnetometer at the Mayor’s City Hall second floor office suite doorway sensed metal (my camera?) and buzzed when I went in, but it buzzed for everyone.  No one was minding it.  Anyway, I’m sure there was not any concealed carry in the City Hall because the yellow sign on the front door of the City Hall said “guns not allowed”.

University Circle Cancer Moving Down East Boulevard... Is there an Urban Planner in the House?

Submitted by Norm Roulet on Fri, 10/05/2007 - 23:59.

The last two realneo headers are pans of a site I pass often, on my way between the East and West sides, which is bounded by East 105, Wade Park and East Boulevard, in one of the most important historic and cultural neighborhoods in America, where I was shocked to find a group of significant apartment buildings being demolished.

DRIVEWAY SEALER - HERE TODAY, LAKE ERIE TOMORROW, YOUR SINK SOON

Submitted by Jeff Buster on Mon, 10/01/2007 - 14:30.

That annual mopping of asphalt sealer all over your driveway or parking lot  leaves a question hanging…

PUBLIC URINATION – WHY CLEVELAND IS FAILING

Submitted by Jeff Buster on Tue, 09/25/2007 - 14:25.

Let’s say it’s 2:30 in the morning in August in Downtown Cleveland, you are a homeless guy in your fifties named  Mr. Baskin, and you are in the grassy walkway area (pictured in daytime above) behind the County Administration Building.   And you’ve got to go.

FALLOUT SHELTERS AND RACCOON RABIES BAIT

Submitted by Jeff Buster on Mon, 09/10/2007 - 09:46.

A few days ago I saw the fallout shelter sign above still hanging on the outside of an old brick apartment building on Lee near Euclid in Cleveland Heights.  Fallout Shelters were a massive US goverment hoax - the signs and the buildings were just placebos for public nervousness.

My Ideal Presidential Candidate

Submitted by Kevin Cronin on Sun, 08/05/2007 - 08:14.

Who's my candidate, the pollster asks?

I will pledge to support what ever candidate does more to make the world hate America less. At the outset, I want to say how truly appalled I am at myself for having such an abysmal standard for evaluating candidates. How can I tolerate, much less espouse, such a bleak, cynical prism to separate the candidates? Yet, I am more troubled by America and an America political system that is content to operate in denial.

07.05.23 Header of the Day: Worse than WiFi-less

Submitted by Norm Roulet on Thu, 05/24/2007 - 00:23.

I had the annoyance of going to Beechwod Place Mall today for a meeting. What an astounding celebration of sweatshop labor and wasted resources. This pan is the first floor corner by some silly place called Nordstom, where not only does the coffee shop not provide wifi but the barista doesn't know what wifi means.

Bruce Perens  Bill Callahan and I are pleased to offer a last moment opportunity to join an important conversation just beginning on making NEO a global leader in the use of Free Open Source Software, with the man who wrote the Open Source Definition, Bruce Perens. Bruce is Vice President of Developer Relations and Policy for FOSS-related SourceLabs, of Seattle. NEO is fortunate to have a local connection with Bruce, as the Director of Marketing for SourceLabs, Athena Diamantis, lives in this region. Digital Vision Director Bill Callahan and East Cleveland CIO Abu Alli met with Bruce and Athena last week to discuss how to make NEO a world FOSS leader, and we decided that is a topic deserving much broader and more open attention. So tomorrow we continue growing the dialog.

Chocolate Toothpaste Better than Fluoride, Researcher Says

Submitted by Norm Roulet on Fri, 05/18/2007 - 15:30.

I've always been uncomfortable with fluoride so now it is very exciting to see that an extract of one of my favorite substances on Earth - cocoa - is better at fighting cavities than flouride. Imagine the joys of childhood (and adulthood) if you had to be certain that every night before bed you ate your chocolate... as suggested by this research from my alma mater, Tulane...

COLOR INSIDE YOUR HEAD

Submitted by Jeff Buster on Wed, 05/16/2007 - 12:08.

I have a theory that images influence our mood.  In particular, I believe that color and shape  in images impact our daily behavior.  Images certainly may even control more than our mood, but let’s start simply with mood.   There are images we turn our heads away from because we don’t want to view them, and there are images which we return again and again to view.  What does that tell you?
