Submitted by Sudhir Kade on Mon, 09/28/2009 - 10:05.

The Senate Finance Committee is expected to vote on amendments to add a choice of a public health insurance option to Max Baucus's bill on Tuesday. Even though your Senators aren't on the Senate Finance Committee, it's urgent that you call your Senators right now and tell them where you stand on a public health insurance option.

Mayor Jackson issued three bold edicts at City Hall on Tuesday, September 22nd at 10:15 AM, to help ensure sustainability of the Sustainable Cleveland 2019 Conference objectives:  First, he designated a cabinet-level position, Chief of Sustainability and promoted Andrew Watterson to that position.  Second, he designated a twenty-five member special advisory council to ensure strategic progress and coordination -

An Appeal from Organizing for America to Take Action on Healthcare Reform Locally : Your Thoughts, RealNEO?

Submitted by Sudhir Kade on Tue, 09/01/2009 - 19:10.

With just days remaining before Congress returns to D.C. to tackle health insurance reform, we're organizing our biggest push yet to show local support for change -- our "Health Insurance Reform Now: Let's Get It Done!" events.

There are thousands of gatherings across the country, and the event this Thursday in Cleveland could be one of the best. I hope you can be there as we hear from local leaders and present the thousands of declarations of support for reform that we've been collecting in Ohio for months.

Rest in Peace, Senator Kennedy : A letter from our President

President Barack Obama to me show details 11:27 PM (25 minutes ago) Sudhir -- Michelle and I were heartbroken to learn this morning of the death of our dear friend, Senator Ted Kennedy. For nearly five decades, virtually every major piece of legislation to advance the civil rights, health and economic well-being of the American people bore his name and resulted from his efforts.

On the importance of elevating our city in big media - elsewhere

Submitted by Sudhir Kade on Wed, 07/08/2009 - 09:19.

There are many ways Cleveland and Clevelanders have fought to elevate the great things going on in our great city via media channels elsewhere - and of course to portray our jewels and wins in the most positive light possible.   We've seen national publications highlight good things here, like our arts infrastructure, for example.  We should celebrate the Wall Street Journal just

Operationalizing a six-sphere model, in the name of Community and Economic Development

Submitted by Sudhir Kade on Mon, 06/29/2009 - 09:47.

As I've mentioned previously, many of my six years with REALNEO to date have been spent in pursuit of a core research question - that economic development and community development can become equated under a frame of quality of life and place enrichment.  This has been proposed previously and backed by many of my theoretical pieces.  Now, as I shift to operationalization of the theory, it becomes more important to request feedback and input from the variously communities

Its been some time since I've blogged here, but I'm back.  I'd thought I'd post a short but sweet entry on the importance of litter prevention and associated laziness factors to overcome as well as the importance of cleanup after the fact.  Many parts of Cleveland have been greened and treelawned at a tremendous rate and its heartening to see.

For you to say you never know what I am talking about is not very nice.

I would also like my 500 dollars paid back, you extracted from me over the past year.  I do care about you, but I need the cash.  Perhaps you'll get a finders fee for all

the great planning and work you've done.  But we need to talk about the intentional misdirections you gave me on the day of the Social Media Club event,

A declaration of mindshift and focus - and attempt to lead by example

Any one that takes the time to read my blog posts over the past five years can see what I've represented since that time, and in many ways, for much of my life.   For some of us, the life story starts with one of privilege - we may be born to wealthy parents, with millions of dollars - and enjoy all the entitlements that are inherent within.  My parents immigrated here with barely a dollar in their pockets, from a lower-middle-class family upbringing.  They traveled against the odds, with little more than my dad's acceptance to medical residency,

On deconstruction - physically to help our region revitalize - and personally - at the hands of others.

Submitted by Sudhir Kade on Mon, 02/23/2009 - 00:34.

Deconstruction is a wonderful opportunity to create revenue from what would typically be waste material that would be directed to landfill otherwise. The typical cost of demolition of a typical home in an underprivileged community often exceeds $8000. In addition, demolition needs to be accompanied with the use of excessive water - which is another form of waste - to ensure toxins like lead, asbestos, or mercury do not spew into the surrounding air, soil and water. When deconstructing, this toxicity spread and water use is circumvented.
