Homeless and sick - not easy to intervene with help

Submitted by Jeff Buster on Thu, 06/13/2013 - 20:08.

Recently, when I was in New York City, the most impressive experience I had was riding on the subway with a very ill fellow.   His right leg was wrapped in a black plastic garbage bag, his pant leg above the bag appeared wet with blood and body fluid, and he was rocking back and forth in the fetal crouch position without looking up.    The garbage bag "shoe" was leaking and the linoleum floor was moist...

Turkey Tail - not like I painted in kindergarten

Submitted by Jeff Buster on Mon, 06/10/2013 - 17:25.

These guys are pretty impressive - lots of gobble noises while scurrying after the hens.

I remember in kindergarten we made clay models of turkeys at Thanksgiving...I think I painted rainbow colors on the tail of the turkey...that wasn't anatomically correct.

I lived to be alive in 1984 - you did too- and so did Mr. Obama

Submitted by Jeff Buster on Fri, 06/07/2013 - 20:39.

Many of the caller's into Tom Ashbrook's "On Point" Public Radio program said they had no problem with being monitored - because "they had nothing to hide".

Ignorance is bliss - for right now, anyway.

Mr. Orwell's 1984 strikes me as a caption for understanding WWII and Mr. Hitler's and Mr. Stalin's pograms.

But that was over a half century ago.

Gawker's "crackstarter" campaign - a brilliant viral idea - hat's off to John Cook and Nick Denton

Submitted by Jeff Buster on Thu, 05/30/2013 - 20:29.

Ever since I was aware several years ago that Toronto's Mayor Rob Ford didn't like bikes on the streets of Toronto, I haven't liked Rob Ford.

So when Gawker initiated it's "crackstarter" (pun on Kickstarter) campaign in the middle of May to crowd source $200,000 to buy from some drug commerce folks the video which purportedly shows Mayor Ford smoking crack - I was impressed.

What a great idea!

CRACKSTARTER!

Wouldn’t it be curious if….the Boston Marathon bombers were part of an FBI sting that got away from the FBI handlers?

Getting our Money's Worth from fossil fuel - Make's me wanna grab my Guitar and DRIVE my car!

Submitted by Jeff Buster on Mon, 05/20/2013 - 21:56.

Fossil fuels are the Gift that Keeps on Giving!

Giving HEAT!

First the fossil fuel heats up and expands the air in our V8 engine cylinders, then, after passing out the exhaust pipe (or chimney), the exhaust CO2 etc. heats up the globe - one local atmosphere at a time.

You've got to stay ahead - get out in front of - this Curve.

This is the curve that the folks at the Station Nightclub in Rhode Island and at Kiss in Brazil had to react to - to stay alive.

alewife going up river to spawn - blows your mind

Submitted by Jeff Buster on Mon, 05/13/2013 - 13:14.

The 70 year old lady next to me watching this scene was from Germany.

The Atlantic Alewife herring were running up the river to spawn - and to feed the Great Blue heron and the terns.

Very dramatic life and death stuff going on here.

Camera Obscura - how we really see things

How does a hole in the wall act as a lens?

How does the diameter of the hole in the wall act with regard to focal distance?

The image above has about a 4 foot focal distance.

Camera Obscura - lots to learn!

Image: George Samuel - about 3.5 minute exposure.

Redpath Toronto Sennebogen ship sugar unloader

Submitted by Jeff Buster on Sat, 05/04/2013 - 20:38.

The hydraulic clam shell bucket - sugar leaking from its corners - holds 10 meters cubed.

Why doesn't someone fix the leaks?   Lots of sugar lost all over the dock and blowing away in the air.

At bat with bases loaded, this was a three run second base homer for Big Papi

But the entire operation is sick.

Stadium with electronic signs everywhere - blaring out Budweiser!

You bring a little kid to this shit, and the kid's brain is going to be indelibly impressed with corporate crap.

The internet is the coolest vehicle!   Tim Berners-Lee my hat's off to you.   Thanks a lot!

Back when Encyclopedia Brittanica was the home source for information, or going to the library was the means to find out about something --- there was always a pause between when you wanted to know something, and when you could actually find out about that something.

Not with the internet.  No waiting.

The Big Owe - Montreal's 1976 Olympic Stadium fiasco

Submitted by Jeff Buster on Tue, 04/30/2013 - 10:13.

If you look at the image, you can just barely see the roof lift cables extending between the "arm" and the white roof of the stadium.   But, the roof doesn't lift.

As it turns out, this 1976 Montreal Olympic stadium - though still standing and still used -  is forensicly studied as an example of engineering failure and cost over runs.

Getting Old Together after years of friendship - so beautiful it's hard to look at dry eyed

Submitted by Jeff Buster on Mon, 04/29/2013 - 21:09.

Sunday I went with a friend to the municipal (not Cleveland's expensive) botanical garden.  As we approached the front entry there was a little plaza, and on the plaza the couple in the image above enjoyed the sun and passer bys.

It was one of the first warm days of spring, a good time to be outside enjoying being alive.

Flying Jimmy Haslam - rebates to himself?

Submitted by Jeff Buster on Tue, 04/16/2013 - 17:14.

Paying out "rebates" to trucking firms which bought a lot of fuel?.....why not simply reduce your profit with disquised rebates to yourself ?....and lower your "profit" and your taxes in the process...

Create a bunch of phony co's, and rebate to them....which is actually yourself...

Let's see what the IRS determines.

But, this is another example of the scum than find Cleveland and come to rip us off with the help of our very own ignorant elected cyphers.

Jewelry - only to be lost or stolen - misery inducing - why do we like Jewelry?

Submitted by Jeff Buster on Sat, 04/13/2013 - 18:39.

What is it about jewelry that is attractive?   Not the cost, that is unattractive.

And if you own jewelry you know that owning jewelry is a miserable experience.   You can't remember where you hid it.   And even if you could find it, you would probably lose it if you wore it.
