Awhile back--Jeff Buster and I caught the InTheMo folks filming at the Westside Market--they've finally launched their site.  Take it out for a spin.

Attracting Immigrants--Two Russian Girls

Submitted by lmcshane on Sun, 06/27/2010 - 19:32.

Here's a story for the PD-I can hook you up with a follow-up.

Two college students from Russia are staying in Cleveland this summer.  One is from Siberia and one from Moscow.  They flew into Cleveland, booked a hotel and went straight to the Cleveland Public Library Main Branch where, lo and behold, they found someone to take them in for the summer.

How many American college students would take on that kind of adventure?

Voices against Violence Saturday, June 26th 1-5 Lincoln Park

Submitted by lmcshane on Thu, 06/24/2010 - 20:21.

Second District Commander Sulzer played a lead role in organizing this event.  Last year's program was outstanding and featured voices from the Mega Church on Scranton Rd.

This handy dandy card was mailed out to residents in Tremont.

Happy, smiling FREE

Submitted by lmcshane on Sun, 06/20/2010 - 13:33.

It was so wonderful today see a young boy at Lincoln Park Pool--slip out of his street bravado to enjoy the water as a child.

He rode up to the pool in his oversized shirt and street clothes and I feared the worse, but he slowly shed the "urban" street look to reveal his wild and colorful swim trunks.

AMERICA hates children

Submitted by lmcshane on Mon, 06/07/2010 - 09:54.

I am going to expand this post, but for now, consider the suburban model of schooling children and the "urban" model of schooling children.

If you live in the suburbs--your school facility is modelled after a prison.  You drive your kids to school or they drive themselves.  The school is set back far from the street so the noise and spill out of noisy kids can not offend.

We're not Detroit

Submitted by lmcshane on Sun, 06/06/2010 - 17:41.

When I first came back to Cleveland in 1992--I met up and had the good fortune to work with many amazing people who have made an enormous difference in changing the environment here.

I just want to say thank you today--especially to Tim Donovan.  For twenty plus years, Tim has toiled to make folks appreciate the Cuyahoga River Valley.  I don't take this for granted.

Citizenry

This is an open letter of thanks to Norm Roulet.

Norm, you have endured a nightmare experience while trying to bring accountability and open networking to NEO.

You have been treated inhumanely and your ideas have been stolen and misused.  Yet, gradually, everyday--we see your tools being put to use.

America the Beautiful

Submitted by lmcshane on Fri, 04/30/2010 - 14:42.

Yesterday, before falling into a fever-induced sleep--some 24-hour flu bug--I meant to look up the words to this song.  We've had some awfully beautiful days here in NEO. It's worth remembering:

AMERICA THE BEAUTIFUL

O beautiful for spacious skies,
For amber waves of grain,
For purple mountain majesties
Above the fruited plain!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!
