RFP - Request For Partners in Redevelopment of Coventry Elementary School and PEACE Park

Submitted by Norm Roulet on Fri, 11/07/2008 - 15:54.

The October 30, 2008 Sun Press lead cover story article (strangely... not on-line) was: "New Uses For Coventry? Music School Settlement, day care, and charter school send letters of interest". This reported, "The Intergenerational School's proposal also listed several partners: Richard Fleischman Architects, of Cleveland, Star Neighborhood Development, of East Cleveland, Strategic Resource Consultants, of Cleveland Heights, and City Fresh Cafeteria, Fresh Stop and Market, of Cleveland". "Fleischman would serve as design architect, while Star Neighborhood Development and Strategic Resource Consultants would likely be development partners...". "That proposal would also include a 1.5 acre "Urban Farm"...". I submitted the proposal, a public document, highlighted below and attached as a PDF, and can say the Sun Press report is largely correct, but the story is far from complete, and far more exciting than the Sun brings to light.

City Xpressions 2008 Fan Dancing

Huge props to the many artists, MCs, DJs, bboys-and-girls, organizers and 100s of real NEOans who turned out for the 7th annual City Xpressions Street Art Festival, August 23, 2008, at West 25th and Lorain, Cleveland. A perfect summer day - great happy crowd - creative vibe and entertainment - and some spectacular urban art. While there weren't as many artists as the last year I attended, what showed was diverse and often pure genius.

Congratulations to Shaw's 'Best Band In The World'

Submitted by Norm Roulet on Fri, 07/04/2008 - 09:06.

When people wonder what is the value of a local daily newspaper, I must point to the story of Shaw High School Band, which was invited to China to perform but could not afford to do that. The Plain Dealer article "Bang a Drum, Proudly", by Connie Schulz, raised enough attention and funding to get them there, from where they just returned in triumph (nicely covered in the PD here, today)... a $500,000 whirlwind phenomenon all occurring in less than 6 months!

An Afternoon of Bassoon

Submitted by CPL Fine Arts on Wed, 05/21/2008 - 10:59.
BassoonistOn Saturday, May 24th, 2008, the Fine Arts Department will present a recital of classical music written for bassoon and piano. The bassoon is most familiar by its role as the grandfather in Prokofiev's "Peter and the Wolf" and the opening solo in Stravinsky's "Rite of Spring."

The performers include Fine Arts librarian, Michael Dalby and friend, PJ Woolston, who performed together in various orchestras in college. Anne Dalby will accompany them on the piano. The recital will feature works by Ralph Vaughan Williams, Lars-Erik Larsson, and Johann Baptist Vanhal. Please join us on the 3rd floor of Main Library on Saturday, May 24th, 2008 at 4pm for "An Afternoon of Bassoon"!

I can't believe that I found out about this--today from a bad flyer in Parma.

and the PD is just picking it up now, too...I saw the place a couple of months ago.  This is a sacred place for a lot of people and the new owner respects the history of the Euclid Tavern.  Believe it or not, the sign is a reconstruction.  See www.euclid-tavern.com as this develops.
