Last Thursday the sun produced an X1.9 rated solar flare that narrowly missed Earth.Although it wasn’t aimed directly at us, about 45 minutes after leaving the sun it was still powerful enough to disrupt radio communications.Now, that same area  responsible for producing the X-class flare may pose a direct threat to Earth.National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) Space Weather Prediction Center says that the region on the sun known as

I was a student at CSU, briefly during the eighties, and the art building was my home.  The exhibit is bittersweet.  The building will be torn down for new student housing and the gallery will be relocated to Playhouse Square in the Middough Building.

I grow a dark red 1972 hybrid tea rose, bred by the Kern Rose Nursery that was in Mentor. I does not produce a lot of blooms, and those it does produce seldom open fully to show their golden stamens. Of course with 75-80 petals of good substance to open, it is no wonder. This bud I photographed October 1.

At some point in our future, there will be a realization that it is important to hear more than one voice or see more than one reality.  I think that the world will appreciate the art made in places besides New York.  I think Northeast Ohio has some amazing art and amazing artists.  See it, hear it, feel it.

The Social Sciences Department of the Cleveland Public Library will hold their non-fiction book club discussion on tomorrow, Thursday, November 10, 2011 at 12:00 PM in the Social Sciences Department (Sports Research Center).  We will discuss the book entitled, "Framing Innocence: a Mother's Photographs, a Prosecutor's Zeal, and a Small Town's Response." Most sculpture lovers easily recognize the work of William McVey, who served as the head of the sculpture Department at the Cleveland Institute of Arts, Cranbrook Academy, and has been a guest professor at The Ohio State University. His public commissions include statuary at Rice University, Washington DC, the National Zoo and all over Cleveland.

Is Cleveland doomed to become a city without music if legislation is updated that spells out the rules for bars, taverns and restaurants that want to add live music?

It's been a while since I have shared my two cents, almost a year. It has flown by. Been busy though still not working a job. In house home health care of mom-n-law is full time occupation, for now. I did manage to join the new Lorain Arts Council. So in my free time I have been there.

The Lorain Arts Council has been in cahoots with the City of Lorain to stir up people traffic in the downtown area. Lorain does have some big yearly events but has need for smaller venues. We have secured a building and have a gallery. The gallery is called "LAC Gallery 737 and Art Center.

The Fine Arts Department is pleased to present The Marimba Masters of Cleveland on Saturday, October 1st, at 2 p.m. on the 3rd floor of Main Library. This recently formed group will perform transcribed works for marimba quintet by Mozart, Smetana, Rachmaninoff, Zez Confrey, and more. This program is FREE and open to all ages. The Marimba Masters of Cleveland consists of five Cleveland area percussionists who have come together to foster the performance of music written and arranged for the marimba. The group was started by Joseph Adato, retired percussionist of The Cleveland Orchestra and includes: Donald Miller, Cleveland Orchestra percussionist and music librarian; Matt Hunsaker , Cleveland area freelance percussionist; Andrew Pongrace, Timpanist, Cleveland Pops Orchestra; and Bruce Golden, Cleveland area freelance percussionist.

Since I had only one day notice of the meeting, I complained and found that other people had had earlier notices and Sammy Catania had provided Henry Senyak with a list of dates. I suggested they be put in the newsletter. Well, the date it has to go to the printer doesn't allow for that. Well, print the whole list! Fortunately, the helpful Public Information Officer sent me the list, and here it is! I hope in the future to not be the only one raising questions/from the board.
