Northeast Ohio - An Air Quality Advisory has been issued for Monday until such time as the front containing rain moves through the region.  This Advisory is for the counties of Ashtabula, Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake, Lorain, Medina, Portage, and Summit.
 
High humidity and approaching rain will contribute to the formation of fine particle pollution.  Fine particle pollution often "locks onto" water molecules and hangs in the air.
 
In addition, on Monday winds will be from the south-southwest, bringing pollution from upwind sites.  If the wind shifts to the north, blowing onshore from Lake Erie, the air will clear.  Rain will also clear the air, and is expected by midday as scattered showers.
 
This Air Quality Advisory has been issued because pollution levels are forecasted to be  "unhealthy for sensitive groups" including children, the elderly, and people with respiratory conditions.
 
What Is It?  Fine particles are microscopic bits of pollution from cars, trucks, industrial emssions and other sources. These tiny particles are difficult to clear from the lungs.  Both gasoline and diesel contribute to fine particle pollution.
