Good bread is worth the time or money

No matter what, really great bread and other baked goods are costly. Great, organic, fresh, natural ingredients that make baked goods great are expensive, and baking takes time, whoever does it. I'd rather pay $5 for a great loaf of Zoss or Crumbs or Vera's bread than $4 for some factory-produced processed bread-like product, which is what fills most grocery shelves and home breadbaskets, and is served in most restaurants and take-outs... yech.

Raw

The majority of raw ingredients we depend upon are not found locally.  The only raw ingredients we like to mix-up in northeast Ohio seem to be our natural resources and raw land.  We have to start giving back and restoring.  Norm, you and your family are doing just that.  I am not trying to sound sanctimonious about living in the city, although, I know that is how I will be read.  I have a hard time dictating my own life, let alone other person's lives.  I attended a funeral mass today for my friend's husband.  My friend doesn't live in Cleveland, she lives in another city/suburb and she and her husband both contribute and contributed to making that community work as a community.  That is the point that I try to make as often as possible, although it doesn't seem to get across.  I can't say that I am a great communicator.

  Returning today from Gentiles Bakery and Italian Foods store on Broadview, I inquired on their costs for flour: last year a 50 lb bag of flour cost $9.00, this year $27.00, and that doesn't include delivery charges.
