Community Vision Plan Meeting

Wednesday, December 10th, 2014

6-8 pm

HUMADAOP Youth Center (Gruss Hall)

Please join residents and stakeholders for this important meeting to discuss the future of the South Branch Library. As many of you are aware, 18 months ago the South Branch Library was relocated from the Historic Carnegie Building on the corner of Clark and Scranton Avenue to farther west on Clark Avenue. The current location is temporary. Please come and join the dialogue about the future of the South Branch Library and its permanent home.

Thank you to the many people who continue to pressure Cleveland Public Library to do the right thing:

Carnegie and William Howard Brett

The Wikipedia listing for William Howard Brett - Cleveland's first librarian - notes that he pioneered support for libraires with industrialist Andrew Carnegie.  Their correspondence is documented in letters collected and recorded for history at Cleveland Public Library, which is part of the mission of The Library - to PRESERVE significant cultural resources. http://cplorg.cdmhost.com/cdm/search/searchterm/Brett%27s

The building's significance also draws admirers to Cleveland by sites like:

I hold out hope that Cleveland Public Library's current Director Felton Thomas will be a visionary like his predecessor William Howard Brett, and that he will reach out for philanthropy from Nestle's or from the Maltz Family, who have so generously supported Cleveland's cultural institutions.

The Carnegie South branch was designed with love by William Howard Brett, a man who valued children and who pioneered services to children in libraries.  The historic Carnegie South Branch needs to be restored to it's original and distinctive location - to best serve the students of three Cleveland Metropolitan schools - Buhrer, Scranton and Luis Munoz-Marin.

Cummins was no show and no rep to commit to reopening library

Brian Cummins continues to hide in the shadows and fails to represent his consitutents - he was a no show at last night's meeting to decide fate of Carnegie South Library.  Tremonster posted this report:

Jerleen Justus will also have coverage in the Plain Press.
