Handcrafted Beaded Jewelry Sale

Benefit for the Isla Mujeres, Mexico Mayan Women’s Beading Collective

Jewelry Nov 2006

Beautiful handcrafted necklaces, earrings, ankle bracelets, purses, medicine pouches, etc.

Each year my friend Karen Rosenberg and her partner Carol Groetzinger take a group of women for a wellness retreat to a small island in the Yucatan, Mexico called Isla Mujeres.  Part of our commitment to the Island community is to help support a women’s beading collective. The women support themselves and their families by making beautiful beaded jewelry.  They sell their crafts in the town square during fiestas and holidays.  We bring seed beads for them each year and now are bringing back their jewelry to sell to our friends and families.  All the proceeds from the jewelry sales go directly to the women.  The Isla women are enormously appreciative of our efforts to help them be self-sufficient economically, and we feel like our circle of women now extends to include these women as well.
