i beg all of you prepare for a killer earthquake in cleveland,midwest - yogi wouldn't come into home about 5 am after walk our cable went out about 8 times about 4am and many other signs like anger almost uncontrolable etc etc etc let us all come togeather and for get our differences so we can save our lifes and other species lifes with tears of faith- yogi and guy

Our house will survive
I think our 102 year old EC house will survive whatever god throws at us - it was literally built by a company that built woden ships, when there were wooden ships on Lake Erie, what switched to building homes - and it is largely wood framed with huge timbers, like a battleship. The development partners were the White family, and the sewing machines they built back then are still doing fine today.
This house apparently survived having 15 people live in it all at once, for some time - entire families lived in each bedroom - it has been through a lot!
My parents' overbuilt underengineered sprawling, decomposing 1920s brick mansion in Shaker will crumble like a wet sugarcube under pressure... the heights will be killing fields

When I lived in San Francisco
When I lived in San Francisco the first time I was there for the early tremors before their last big quake - I certainly know what it feels like... very very strange feeling... in my case, lasting around a minute... very bad sign that led to disaster. I feel a similar feeling in my neighborhood often, as it seems the traintracks nearby shake our house... or I'm feeling tremors. I work on the 3rd floor of a very tall narrow, loose 102-year-old wood frame house so I definitely feel movement here more than most places (and I've been in many buildings that have considerable movement).
Guy - keep an eye on this - you are definitely the earthquake guy in the region and I trust you to warn us here first, by a long shot.

When I lived in San Francisco another time I asked by-far the smartest human I ever met what he thought about the earthquake risk there.
He said something like this... which made me feel very safe in San Francisco, and worried about folks back home...
People in Ohio are in far greater risk of harm from a serious earthquake than people in places with frequent serious earthquakes, like San Francisco.
In places where there is frequent earthquake activity people prepare and are prepared for earthquakes - tall buildings are built on Teflon shift pads and engineered to meet strict building requirements - all buildings are REALLY inspected (what is the lead poisoning rate there... in that historic place) - old buildings that haven't met suitable building requirements in the past have fallen or burned in earthquakes so there has been a natural selection, as well - every year, it gets safer in San Francisco, because they have had one more year to learn from past earthquake activity and adapt, and transform to higher standards.
And, people are smart there - like Guy and Yogi - ALWAYS ON ALERT.
That also makes everything a hell of a lot nicer out there - it is all built to a higher standard, and people live to a higher standard.
Smart - very smart. I love it there.
In Northeast Ohio, our old buildings are a bunch of crap that was not at all engineered to withstand earthquakes of any real scale - our old masonry bridges and tall buildings will collapse - most new stuff will fall apart beyond repair - we will be near total loss, if we have any serious earthquake here.
The other point my friend made is that we do have a high probability of having a significant earthquake here - it has happened before - and earthquakes in this region will be more jarring, as we have a rock base that will shift with a very direct impact, and travel far, while the San Francisco area has more of a sandy base that dampens the sharpness and flow of impact.
Those were just the observations of someone who is also one of the world's most amazing computer programmers - he is extremely accurate.
The tremors I felt in San Francisco before the last big quake did little damage to the building where I rented - the actual quake that followed took it and much of that district out (I had just moved away) - they rebuilt better.

I remember in the 1980s
I was living in Cleveland Hts and talking on the phone to someone in the Painesville area and my house started to shake. I thought damn, I mis-loaded the washing machine again, but then the person I was talking to and I realized we both had heard/felt something and it must be big.
I assumed it was Perry nuclear plant. I was due to drive my daughter to school, but I was not going to leave until I knew what was going on. I called the school, they knew nothing of what i was talking about. I turned on the tv, and they had nothing.
It was a good 30 minutes before anyone realized we had experienced an earthquake, here in Ohio. Obviously, we weren't well prepared.

Guy and Yogi should be paid to be in charge of earthquake plan
How likely is it that a minor rise in ocean temperatures would lead to increased thermal activity beneath the earth's crust, leading to more pressure under the crust, leading to more shifting of the plates of the earth, leading to exactly what we have today.
Heat is energy and increasing energy captured inside the Earth will build pressure which must have a release - that's molecular physics - if the heat and molecular energy increase - which would happen if surface air and water temperatures increase - we are in very deep trouble.
We seem to be in very deep trouble.
Northeast Ohio is still probably a better place to be than most places - especailly as we have sorta-drinkable water and seem to be very heavily armed... we can defend our territory, for what it is worth.
These concerns should be part of our disaster preparedness planning.
Guy and Yogi should be paid to be in charge of earthquake planning.
