Eternity--we have so been played for so long--I am worried that the Obama administration is falling into the same traps. What do we do to reinvent America?
In a recent meeting with a group of Dems, Warren Buffet, one of the richest people in the world, flat out told the crowd that the rich need to pay their fair share of taxes. He's actually been saying this for years, because I distinctly remember hearing him say it on Charlie Rose some time ago.
Buffett says that as a result of 8 years of Bush, individuals with his kind of money, billionaires and multi-millionaires, pay a much lower percentage rate of their income in taxes than a person making $35K a year. It is Mr. Buffett believes that with more wealth and power, comes more responsibility and accountability. I agree. But the Dems won't rescind Bush's reckless, money draining tax policies. Obama won't even discuss it.
So what does that have to do with 911? Everything, because the Buffet story illustrates of much of what ails America!
We hear the truth, we call it a lie. We hear a lie, we call it the truth.
And we never forget our pom-poms and flags. God forbid!
America has become bizarro-land. We've shot ourselves in both feet, and we think ourselves to be victims.
There are two political parties in this nation. There's the Democrats, who are on the right, and then there's the Republicans, who are extreme right. There are few true centrist or moderates, and there's a virtually absent left.
So Obama will continue to bury the truth about 911, Big Coal, Big Pharma and Big Military because he's a corporate-whore Republican, just like 90% of the Democratic party.
But you know, exactly WHO are we waiting for to come along and save us? And a better question might be, WHY are we waiting for someone to come along and save us in the first place? I mean, when did you find out there was no Santa Claus? And, if no one had told you, wouldn't you have figured it out on your own anyway...if you really opened your eyes--if you really wanted to know the truth?
America knew the truth about SUV's 20 years ago, but that didn't stop us from building our entire car industry around a product that was clearly unsustainable. F*ck all that sustainability shit, we did it any way!
And how long did we know the truth about cigarettes? And how long have we known the truth about fast food? And we damn sure knew there were no bombs of mass distruction in Iraq, but that didn't stop us from spending a couple trillion dollars killing untold thousands.
For too long the solution to all our problems is to have another piece of cake and wash it down with a sugary beverage, instead of realizing that we've already had about 20 pieces too many. I'm speaking literally and metaphorically here. So the way we've dealt with 9/11, Katrina et all, really should come as no surprise. And the fact that we now have yet another leader at the helm who gives all our wealth away to the wealthy, while refusing to hold anyone responsible for our demise, should come as no surprise either.
Think about it.
Necessity is the mother of invention. That's what I heard long ago. So to answer you questiion of "what do we do to reinvent America?" I think the answer to that question is in the question.
It's a good question, though the question I'd like to hear asked is are we willing to reinvent ourselves?
Have we had enough Bush-Bama, Monsonto, Yes We Can't, Green washing, McDonalds--McDiabetes, Wal Mart (made in China) and petro-military-industrialist conquest?
Once we can face the truth of all that, then facing the truth about Operation 911 will be a cakewalk.
The work comes from a series that was initially called "American Trinity", namely because there were to be three pieces. But as with so much of what I do, the series grew and grew. Now I think there's like 12 pieces, which has since been renemed Operation 911.
I haven't released all of these for public viewing yet, as I'm waiting for the right venue; a statement to be said of most my work. Though as well, I'm contemplating creating a group of geometric sculptures, which will compliment the prints. So for an exhibition, one would walk inbetween the prints on the walls and the sculptures in the middle of the room.
The September 11th experience engulfed this nation--the world, so it would seem only fitting to present a body of work addressing this issue, which engulfs the viewer...pure saturation.
