Service Animal Lavatory?Submitted by Jeff Buster on Thu, 04/01/2010 - 14:47.
Self imposed preamble: This image and this post are intended to describe existing shortcomings in sanitary facilities for service animals and thus help improve work conditions for service animals. ___________________________________ During a two hour long in-town visit, I, by happenstance, saw this seeing-eye guide dog and lady three times - I saw them on the risky don't-walk-into-the-pit rail road platform (image above), in an office where the lady worked, and in a nearby alley were the service animal found it's lavatory. How crazy I thought: the animal shoulders a huge responsibility in providing the human with safe mobility - but the human (and the built environment architect and designer) doesn't provide the animal with a decent place to pee. Doesn't strike me as an equitable deal - considering the importance of the canine's work and the respect which this work should demand. How could urban environments provide practical and respectible sanitary facilities for service animals and all our canine companions? What do the French do? Has any one seen a lavatory for dogs?
