Since
1965, Pennsylvania's community colleges have served adults who pursued
their educational goals in both traditional and innovative ways. Tens
of thousands of community college students in Pennsylvania rely on
distance learning opportunities to build their academic credentials, to
gain new knowledge and to enjoy cultural exploration.

The
Pennsylvania Virtual Community College Consortium (PAVCCC) is a
partnership among Pennsylvania’s 13 community colleges with the mission
of assisting students in coordinating the services and opportunities of
the colleges’ distance learning programs.

The
PAVCCC does not grant degrees or certifications; rather, the member
community colleges develop their own distance learning courses and
programs, hire their own faculty, and ultimately grant the degree or
completion award.

The
college that grants the degree or completion award is referred to as
the “home college. Current community college students already have a
home college; prospective students must be admitted to a home college
before registering for courses.
