It seems I suddenly need to go to Washington DC to meet with Federal officials about air pollution in Northeast Ohio. As timing is critical, I need to leave tonight and drive - returning tomorrow night. Rather than make the trip alone, wasting all that gas for just one person, I thought I 'd see if anyone else in the realNEO community would like to share a ride to-and-from DC for a day-trip there - we should be there for full business hours... 8am-midnight. We'll be going in a convertible and as soon as we escape the air pollution here it is top down all the way through the night. email norm [at] realneo [dot] us

BTW - we'll be there for President Obama's Birthday!

We're not invited to that party, so Happy Birthday in advance, Mr. President

I know Ms. Jackson cares about environmental justice

The good news is that Obama' choice for Administrator of the EPA is a woman - an African American - young mother -  didn't go to Yale... did go to the "Harvard of the South" - my alma mater Tulane.

Tulane creates caring graduates, with a long history of concern for the environment.

I know Ms. Jackson cares about environmental justice, and that is the issue we are dealing with in Cleveland.

And she doesn't seem like a politician to me...

Welcome to real NEO, Ms. Jackson:

Administrator Lisa P. Jackson Biography

Administrator Lisa JacksonAdministrator Lisa P. Jackson leads EPA’s efforts to protect the health and environment for all Americans. She and a staff of more than 17,000 professionals are working across the nation to usher in a green economy, address health threats from toxins and pollution, and renew public trust in EPA’s work.

As Administrator, Jackson has pledged to focus on core issues of protecting air and water quality, preventing exposure to toxic contamination in our communities, and reducing greenhouse gases. She has promised that all of EPA’s efforts will follow the best science, adhere to the rule of law, and be implemented with unparalleled transparency.

Jackson is the first African-American to serve as EPA Administrator. She has made it a priority to focus on vulnerable groups including children, the elderly, and low-income communities that are particularly susceptible to environmental and health threats. In addressing these and other issues, she has promised all stakeholders a place at the decision-making table.

Before becoming EPA’s Administrator, Jackson served as Chief of Staff to New Jersey Governor Jon S. Corzine and Commissioner of the state’s Department of Environmental Protection (DEP). Prior to joining DEP, she worked for 16 years as an employee of the U.S. EPA.

Jackson is a summa cum laude graduate of Tulane University and earned a master’s degree in chemical engineering from Princeton University. She was born in Pennsylvania and grew up a proud resident of New Orleans, Louisiana.

Jackson now resides in Washington D.C.. She is married to Kenny Jackson and is the proud mother of two sons, Marcus and Brian.

Here Come The Warm Jets

Here Come The Warm Jets - Brian Eno - 1974

Father, we make claims on our knees
Dawn enter here for we've nowhere to be
Nowhere to be
Nowhere to be

Father, stains they're all on our knees
Down on our words and we've nothing to be
Nothing to be
Nothing to be

Father, down we're all on our saints
Paid to appease though we've nothing these days
Nothing these days
Nothing these days

Father, here they're sprawled in a daze
We're down on our knees and we've nothing to say
Nothing to say
Nothing to say...
