Is Applying for Mineral Mining Rights within the City Limits of Cleveland Newsworthy?

Submitted by Gloria Ferris on Fri, 03/19/2010 - 20:44.

It would probably depend on your viewpoint.  I would say that the residents on Sky Lane and near Bradley Road would be very interested in Mineral Mining Permit #10428.  The public notice for this application was placed in the Plain Dealer beginning in February.  I went on line to www.Cleveland.com to find one of the public notices by scanning the classifieds but gave it up as a futile endeavor.  The public notices are included with the classifieds and not searchable as far as I could tell.

Received an email from Donn at OBCDC about a public meeting concerning the findings of a  remediation study for the Harshaw Chemical works along Big Creek.  This plant processed or held uranium for the U. S. Government until 1954. This plant is along the banks of the Big Creek which flows into the Cuyahoga River which flows in to Lake Erie.

My Blog is down. Was the Med Mart Letter to the Editor too Heavy for it?

Submitted by Gloria Ferris on Fri, 08/17/2007 - 10:44.

I posted the following letter to my blog yesterday per Jim Moran's request if the Plain Dealer had not run it by Thursday.  They didn't, I did.  George Nemeth at Brewed Fresh Daily posted an excerpt and linked to the original post.  Today, my site is down. I can count the number of times my blog has been down in the past year, exactly once. Today.  Thanks to Norm for sharing RealNEO and thanks to George for posting the letter in its entirety.

Jeff Rethink Your Position on PLJ

Submitted by Gloria Ferris on Thu, 08/02/2007 - 21:33.

I think that a real disservice is done when PLJ is painted with the same broad brush as those other two. Without Peter, there would be no referendum petition.  If the commissioners had voted unanimously to levy the sales tax we would not have had the opportunity we have today.  Therefore, Peter Lawson Jones is a key player in slowing this runaway train down so everyone can take a breather. I can only imagine the pressure exerted on him to change his vote so that we would not be pounding the pavement day after day getting more and more signatures and more and more support.  One of the biggest pluses has been the fact that the resolution states "general fund".  People stop and say, "wait a minute Jimmy Dimora PROMISED it was the Convention Center, but then, suddenly it goes into the general fund coffers.
