CHANGE THE CHARTER OF CLEVELAND

Our goal in 2018 is to submit 10,000 signatures to Cleveland City Council to change certain sections of the City’s Charter. This is one of multiple changes residents have desired to make and had no support in doing so. The following goals are for 2018:
1.) To term limit the office of Mayor to two(2) four (4) year elected terms.
2.) To term limit the office of City Council members to two(2) four (4) year elected terms. To eliminate the ‘appointments’ of persons when an elected official vacates a seat.
3.) To add public speaking minutes into the Monday city council meetings. To allow residents to place public comments on the record when supporting or objecting to council decisions.
4.) To gather signatures to return control of the Cleveland Municipal School Board/System to an elected board.
5.) To change the section of the charter which appoints a Charter Review Committee to an elected position of Cleveland 5 Cleveland residents.
6.) To create a resident based community organization with committees that will review the City of Cleveland Charter and make decisions on areas of concern to be addressed for change.
7.) To engage, educate, and empower the City of Cleveland residents.
