Since Rachel Carson wrote Silent Spring, and DDT has slowly withdrawn from the land and water, many birds which were rarely seen 40 years ago, are more prominent today.   This Great Blue Heron is one of the come-back birds. 

 

Ms. Carson is an example of a single person, presenting a well documented argument, effecting positive behavioral change – via a book, no less. 

 

There are certainly a few species which have Ms. Carson to thank for still being around....
