Categories for Events

Submitted by Boris Mann on Fri, 10/15/2004 - 14:33.

Norm, you've currently placed everything under a single taxonomy. I noticed  that you've been adding a lot of events labeled as "Tuesdays@REI". It's fine to label them in the title, but it would make it even easier to select them all by creating an events vocabulary that includes a "Tuesdays@REI" term.

Boundless Flight Tailgate Party

Submitted by Norm Roulet on Thu, 10/14/2004 - 11:18.
10/17/2004 - 08:00

For every Cleveland Browns home game, Cleveland IT company Boundless Flight hosts a spectacular tailgate party - large tent, game on TV, boundless good food, beverages and cheer... win or lose... starts with breakfast at 9AM - drawing for a pair of free tickets at 12PM - game starts at 1 PM - party runs through game (and there's even a port-a-let)

Boundless Flight CEO Gary Baney welcomes all local IT entrepreneurs (as well as anyone who stumbles by) to join in the celebration. To locate - look for a big tent and red SUV under a 15' high Boundless Flight banner, in the parking lot at the north end of W10th, where it meets Front Street on the East Bank of the Flats - the party is in the NE corner of this lot, right by the railroad tracks and before you go up the hill toward the stadium - see attached PDF flier for more details - easier to find than it may sound - call Gary at 440-610-3683 or Don at 216-374-1091

Flats - End of W.10th and Front Street (See PDF)

Open Source Development and Documentation Project

Submitted by Boris Mann on Thu, 10/14/2004 - 01:31.

I've posted about this on my Bryght blog, but also wanted to mention it here.

The Open Source Development and Documentation Project (OSDDP for short) is doing some interesting work in combining open source methodologies and tools to connect students in Purdue's Professional Writing program with the open source community.

Of interest will be their introductory press release:

In a new initiative to foster what Dr. David Blakesley calls "networked
learning," Purdue University students interact with new people and new
technologies to provide valuable open source
documentation. Students in a variety of English courses in the
Professional Writing major will study open source software, talk to its
designers and users, use the software themselves, then write and test
user documentation, help organizations promote their software in the
wider community, and even develop action plans for deploying such
software in new business and academic ventures.

As always happens at REI, discussion quickly moved to local economic development and entrepreneurship issues and concerns - which allowed for discussion about REALNEO among a small and diverse group of community leaders.
