I GRO Cuba to Grow NEO?Submitted by Norm Roulet on Thu, 07/10/2008 - 22:36.
07/15/2008 - 18:00 07/15/2008 - 19:00 Etc/GMT-4 I thought perhaps I could stump City Fresh's Maurice Small with the question "what county in the world is the leader in urban farming?", but he didn't hesitate responding Cuba. And the July 8, 2008 I GRO EC roundtable concluded we need to plan a best practices mission to Havana. Next Tuesday, July 15, 6-7 PM, come to the Independent Green Republic Of Star Village, at the Star/Hough Bakeries Complex, to help plan our mission to Cuba and discuss other plans for transforming our region through urban farming. At this fifth in a series of brainstorming sessions on urban redevelopment with urban farming, radiating from the Star Complex, Maurice and others planning urban farming in East Cleveland and Cleveland will discuss progress with Star Village planning, including for the PACE urban farming and renovation vocational school, and farm and renovation site selection. One of the objectives of the meeting is for future stakeholders to walk through the Star/Hough Bakeries complex together, as we discuss specific renovation and reuse plans now under development - dress for the weather and walking outdoors. We will also visit the Brown's Market site to discuss renovations and operations as a "City Fresh" market. All input is welcome - please feel free to join us if anything about this exciting initiative is of interest to you. Please come promptly at 6PM as time will be tight and we have lots of ground to cover. More on I GRO EC for City Fresh linked throughout the book at http://realneo.us/I-GRO-EC-for-City-Fresh. Norm, are you really going to close shop at 7:00 p.m.? I will try to pull off a visit. Today, I met a beautiful, young woman/musician and her mom today at the Tremont Farm market (every Sunday morning/afternoon). Her name is Elysha Ross and her family lives in Slavic Village and they have ideas. She sure has some great marketing and her ironic name choice is appropos.
Here's another hopeful project worth watching and also promoted at the Tremont Farm market--and I see already covered by you at REALNEO (unfortunately their site and GCBL are not linking right now--working now--what's ning?).
