Three newly-conserved Japanese hanging scrolls are a highlight in this installation of Chinese and Japanese art dating from 2000 BCE to the present. The earliest scroll, Gibbon on a Rock by Kanõ Yasunobu (16131685), is one of only five Kanõ-school ink paintings in the Allen's collection. It illustrates the important connections between Kanõ painters and Zen Buddhism.
