Frankie Manning Lindy Hop Legacy Fund and the Lindy Hopper FundSubmitted by lmcshane on Thu, 06/30/2011 - 03:13.
SPECIAL NOTE: CALL TO ACTION!!! As part of ILHC's work with the Frankie Manning Lindy Hop Legacy Fund and the Lindy Hopper's Fund, we are sponsoring several groups of youth to attend and compete at ILHC. Many of these kids are from economically disadvantaged communities and as part of the Fund's mission we want to help spread and continue Lindy Hop in these communities. Several of the ILHC instructors have offered to donate their time to give the Junior Division their own special track of classes at ILHC so that they can get to know, interact and inspire each other. The Jitterbug Kids from NYC (one of the groups Frankie helped found and was close to), The Cleveland Junior Jitterbugs from Cleveland and McNamara Middle School students from Houston will be in attendance. There will also most likely be kids from the DC/Baltimore area. ILHC is providing free entrance, hotel rooms, etc for the kids and hope to get sponsorship for donated airfare and transportation costs for the kids. If you would like to donate airfare or sponsor a group of kids please contact Tena Morales at info [at] ilhc [dot] com If you are interested in donating to the fund you may do so by submitting a payment through paypal to the Frankie Manning Fund at info [at] frankie95 [dot] com. Money donated to the Fund is tax deductible. The Frankie Manning Legacy Fund is a project of the Houston Swing Dance Society (HSDS), a 501 ( c)(3) non profit public charity dedicated to the promotion of swing music and dance in Houston and beyond. The Fund is directed and governed by a separate and independent advisory board. The advisory board consists of Chazz Young (Frankie's eldest son), Judy Pritchett (Frankie's long time companion), and Cynthia Millman (Frankie's Biographer). Thank you for helping to keep Lindy Hop alive!

National Dance Day
A dance club in Britain supports the efforts of the Cleveland Junior Jitterbugs.
If anyone is looking for a delightful way to spend a Saturday evening--it's National Dance Day
https://www.facebook.com/pages/Brooklyn-Centre-Community-Association/35749832704#!/event.php?eid=134136993335943
and the Jitterbugs will be out. Many of the students above will be heading to Washington D.C. to compete in the International
Lindy Hop contest. This is a story that should be reported in the Plain Dealer. The kids have attracted attention from all over the world.
Can you do this? The KIDS can :) Headed to D.C.
Finding constructive outlets for kids
Thank you Mhari Saito for telling the important story of Valerie Salstrom's work with young people in the Brooklyn Centre neighborhood of Cleveland.
It's not all gloom and doom. It just takes some one who cares.
Thousands of Constructive outlets....
all vying for quotas of kids and failing to SHARE info in a way that is really realistic.... like a newsletter to the parents via the entire school system.... and the private schools locally... with annual calendars of events enclosed...too many options..not enough time for all.
Always Appreciative, "ANGELnWard14"
