The image shows three exhaust chimneys from a sewerage treatment facility on a cold day.  The sun is behind the 3 chimneys and behind the much larger concrete chimney stack in the back ground.   The only location where the light disturbance in the atmosphere can be seen is at the intersection between the concrete chimney and the open background. 

Why is this the only location showing the light perturbation?
