Can Nonprofits Rebuild the Trust of Their
Giving Communities? 

United Way Chief Brian Gallagher tackles
this issue at The City Club of Cleveland.

CLEVELAND, OH—Brian A. Gallagher,
president and CEO of United Way of America, will address the topic “Accountability,
Transparency and Results: Calling on the Nonprofit Sector to Rebuild Trust� at noon on Friday, December 17, 2004, at The City Club of Cleveland.

Appointed president and CEO in January 2002, Gallagher
immediately took on the challenge of leading the transformation of the
organization to focus on community impact—improving lives by mobilizing the
caring power of communities. Today the United Way identifies root causes of the most
serious problems in communities and brings together people and resources to
tackle the issues that matter the most. Gallagher believes that the true
measure of success for the United Way and other philanthropic
organizations is bottom-line results: the lives that are changed and the
communities that are shaped.

A 20-year veteran of the United Way system, Gallagher most recently
served as president of United Way of Central Ohio in Columbus, where he created Family Housing
Collaborative, which works simultaneously to obtain low-cost housing while
providing day car and job training. He received his bachelor’s degree in social
work from Ball State University in 1981 and his master’s degree in
business administration from Emory University in 1992.

“In this time of intense scrutiny of nonprofits and their
business practices, Brian Gallagher’s visit to The City Club is timely,� says
James Foster, executive director of The City Club of Cleveland. “We are very pleased
to be able to bring him back to Ohio to address our community.�
