
The Mackinac Bridge (wikipedia link [1]) presents visually very well - this view is from the north west shore park at night. Big Mac was engineered about a decade after the Tacoma Narrows bridge collapse [2] in 1940. Compare the deep box truss below the Mac's road deck to the much thinner deck profile of the Tacoma Narrows bridge viewable at the Wikipedia link.
